Team

George Robinson, DVM, MSPH

Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Robinson has over 30 years of veterinary industry experience holding numerous clinical, operational, and senior management roles throughout his career. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Dr. Robinson held a senior management and operations position with National Veterinary Associates, a group veterinary hospital and support organization with over 300 hospital locations and 900 veterinarians throughout the U.S. Prior to National Veterinary Associates, Dr. Robinson held several management roles with Banfield Pet Hospital, including as a Regional Medical Director for Banfield responsible for multi-hospital leadership and operations for a region with over 180 veterinary hospitals. Prior to these management roles, Dr. Robinson also owned, operated, and successfully sold his own veterinary hospitals. His special clinical interests are avian medicine, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. He enjoys lecturing, teaching and sharing his knowledge through journals and media. He is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine, has an MSPH degree from the Howard University School of Medicine, and a BS from Southern University. He previously served as vice president of the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine and is presently a class agent for the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Robinson also serves as the Chairman of the Practice Advisory Panel of the AVMA.

Carl Medlicott, CPA

Chief Financial Officer

Carl has more than 20 years of finance and accounting experience, including nearly ten years in the healthcare services location based business. Carl held senior finance and accounting roles while at Accelerated Rehabilitation, a private equity backed leading outpatient physical therapy company which grew to over 300 locations in eight states prior to selling to Athletico Physical Therapy in 2014. Prior to his work at Athletico and Accelerated Rehabilitation, Carl held a senior finance role at Applied Systems and served as a global accounting executive for the consulting firm A.T. Kearney working across multiple domestic and international offices. He graduated with a BA in Accounting from Northern Illinois University and a Masters of Information Systems from DePaul University.

Grant D. Wilson

Chief Development Officer

Grant has more than ten years of private equity investing, investment banking, and corporate development experience. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Grant served as an investment professional with Waud Capital Partners, a Chicago-based lower middle market private equity firm where he invested in and helped build a number of healthcare provider-led businesses. Grant also previously served as a director of corporate development and held management positions with CME Group where he led a number of initiatives ranging from small commercial partnerships to large-scale, cross-border M&A transactions. Grant began his career in the investment banking division of Lehman Brothers. He graduated with a BS in Finance and Accounting from Miami (of Ohio) University where he also earned a Master of Accountancy degree. He also earned his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Connor Lawrie

Vice President of Operations

Connor has approximately a decade of experience in healthcare operations, corporate development and investment banking. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Connor held operational and development leadership roles with National Surgical Healthcare (“NSH”), an owner and operator of over 20 short-stay surgical facilities with >500 affiliated physicians. During the course of Connor’s tenure with NSH, he held operational responsibility for several hospital markets across the country and served in a leadership capacity in one of NSH’s largest facilities. Connor previously worked in a development role with NSH, where he focused on new acquisitions of ambulatory surgery centers, surgical hospitals, physician practices and strategic portfolio growth. Connor also worked with NSH through its successful sale to Surgery Partners (NASDAQ: SRGY). Prior to joining NSH, Connor worked in the investment banking division of Cleary Gull primarily working on sell-side engagements for middle market and lower middle market companies. He graduated from Marquette University with majors in Finance and Economics.

Leann Bickford

Director of Business Development

Leann has over a decade of experience in private equity investing, corporate development, and investment banking. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Leann was an investment professional at Brazos Private Equity Partners, a growth-oriented buyout firm that executed buy-and-build strategies across healthcare, tech-enabled services and consumer industries. While at Brazos, Leann led transaction efforts at several portfolio companies and partnered closely with management teams to help drive organic growth initiatives, resulting in substantial value creation. Earlier in her career, she worked for a financial services and investment banking firm in New York City. Leann holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University with a BBA in finance and management.

Matt Evangelista

Director of Business Development

Matt has over 25 years of veterinary sales and management experience, most recently as a senior executive for The Veterinary Purchasing Group (VPG), a network of more than 600 veterinary hospitals focused on improving profitability through negotiating corporate level savings initiatives and leveraging distribution relationships. Matt has led sales teams in the animal health industry for HJ Heinz, Del Monte Foods, and Royal Canin USA, a subsidiary of MARS and a leading manufacturer of prescription pet foods. Matt has a BS in Marketing from Illinois State University and an MS in Management from National Louis University.

Maranda Haluska

Director of Business Development

Maranda has nearly 18 years of veterinary industry experience. She has worked with multiple leading group veterinary hospital and support organizations in addition to executive roles with other veterinary service companies. Maranda previously led development and acquisition activities in the Midwest market for VetCor Professional Practices, a leading group veterinary hospital and support organization with over 175 hospital locations, and also worked for BluePearl Veterinary Partners, a specialty group veterinary hospital with over 50 hospital locations. Maranda has also held roles with PetCure Oncology, a provider of radiation oncology solutions to the veterinary market, and HUB International within HUB’s veterinary insurance programs division. Prior to these various executive roles, Maranda worked in two private companion animal veterinary hospitals building operational skillsets within the veterinary field. Maranda attended Purdue University and is actively involved with numerous veterinary industry associations including VetPartners and AAHA.

Lori Meredith

Director of Business Development

Lori has over 25 years of business development, sales, and management experience in veterinary and other healthcare industries. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Lori spent several years in business development with one of the largest private owners of freestanding hospitals in the United States, where she was involved in the acquisition activities of veterinary hospitals and higher-end pet boarding and daycare facilities. Prior to entering the veterinary industry, Lori worked in numerous roles in pediatric nutrition and human healthcare for Abbott Laboratories, CCS Medical, HealthSouth Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospitals, and Thermo-Fisher Scientific (formerly Pierce Biotechnology). Lori attended Rockford University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Samantha “Sam” McGuire

Director of Recruiting & Human Resources

Sam has spent her career focused on recruiting and human resources activities in a number of industries including healthcare, finance, and technology. Prior to joining Heartland Veterinary Partners, Sam successfully recruited for a multitude of healthcare and leadership related positions with IBM Watson Health. During this time, she also built and helped lead the direct campus recruiting program for IBM Watson Health. Sam began her career serving as a recruiter and human resources manager for a technology focused consulting and staffing firm. She has extensive experience working with corporate leadership teams in defining and implementing training, recruiting, compliance, and benefits plans. Sam attended Northern Illinois University and is in the process of receiving her PHR Certification.
